Verdict. Kalon AI is the only companion in my test field that asks about a boundary before the first sentence and then actually holds it, and the memory on this platform carries not just names but the tone of the past week. Against that stand a coin balance whose per-action prices are published nowhere, a strict no-refund rule, and an encryption promise on the home page that never appears in the privacy policy. Grade B−.

There is a tool every good table uses: before the first roll you agree on what is allowed in this story and what is not. Kalon AI is the first AI character app that asked me exactly that before the character wrote her first sentence. At the top of the chat sits a slider for explicitness, you set it, and the character stays at that level until you move it. After a month with apps that either refuse everything or assume everything, that one slider changed my whole test.

The second thing Kalon AI did was count. Everything here runs on a single coin balance: text, images, voice and short video clips all draw on the same account. Free gives you 50 coins a day, the monthly plan brings 16,000 a month, the annual plan 200,000 a year. The system is fairer than it sounds, and the platform never properly explains it, which is why this Kalon AI review needs more room for arithmetic than the marketing page would like.

I played my three fixed scenes: the tavern for loose talk, the interrogation where the character has to hold a position against me, and the quiet evening where nothing happens on purpose. Week one on the free plan in the browser on a laptop and a phone, week two on the annual plan with my own card. On the first evening I planted three personal details and set a boundary; on day seven I asked about both. I read the privacy policy, the terms of service, the cancellation rules and the age verification rules in full.

Every price below is in US dollars, the way the checkout page bills it; what leaves your account in another currency depends on the day's rate and sales tax. Verified October 1, 2026. What a single action costs in coins is on no official page I could open, and is flagged as unconfirmed below.

What is Kalon AI?

In one paragraph

Kalon AI is an adult companion platform run by Kalon, LLC, based in Carson City in the US state of Nevada and online since 2024. It combines text chat, speech, image generation and short video clips around a character who carries a memory the platform calls emotional memory: preferences, boundaries, the state of the story and mood. There is no app in the stores, everything runs in the browser, and you pay not per feature but through a shared coin balance. Before the chat sit sliders for explicitness and a work-safe default mode in which adult content is switched off until you turn it on yourself. The paid plans cost $19.97 a month or $119.64 a year.

How I tested Kalon AI

I played Kalon AI on my fixed protocol, and because there is no app, everything ran in the browser, once on the laptop and once on the phone. Week one was the free plan, because the 50 daily coins decide whether a normal person stays at all. Week two was the annual plan, the version the platform wants you on and the only one that makes sense once you do the math. Both weeks ran the same three scenes: the tavern, the interrogation and the quiet evening. On top came a fourth test I needed here for the first time, namely deliberately pushing against the boundary I had set on the slider.

  • Plans checked: Free (50 coins a day), Monthly ($19.97, 16,000 coins) and Annual ($119.64, 200,000 coins) from the pricing section on kalon.ai
  • Free plan: Daily coins with no card, images included; the size of the welcome balance is stated differently on official pages, as either 50 or 100 coins
  • Three scenes: Tavern, interrogation and quiet evening, twice each; plus a fourth session in which I deliberately played against the boundary I had set
  • Memory test: Three details and one boundary planted on the first evening, asked about with no keyword on day seven
  • Extras checked: The five-step character builder, both image styles, one video clip and several spoken replies, all out of the same coin balance
  • Documents read: Privacy policy, terms of service, cancellation rules, age verification rules and content guidelines, each in the version dated February 4, 2026
  • Not confirmed: What a text, an image, a spoken reply or a video clip costs individually in coins; there is no published price list for it

What Kalon AI gets right

The explicitness sliders do exactly what the home page claims

You set your level before the conversation starts, you can move it at any time, and the character sticks to it. In my fourth session I deliberately pushed against it: the character stayed romantic without tipping into the explicit, until I moved the slider myself. That is rarer than it should be. The default mode is work-safe, so adult content is something you switch on, not off. For me as a game master this is the same mechanism as the agreement before a campaign, except here the software enforces it.

The memory carries tone and boundaries, not just names

The platform's own pages describe the memory as a collection of preferences, boundaries, story state and emotional context, and that matches what I saw. A detail from week one came back unprompted in week two, and the boundary I had set still applied in a fresh session with no second announcement. More impressive was the register: a character I had led quietly for a week stayed quiet instead of snapping back to the factory setting of her template. For a platform launched in 2024 that is a strong result.

The annual plan bundles what others sell as extras

For $9.97 a month paid annually you get voice, images, video and the full memory out of a single balance. At most competitors at least one of those is a second product you buy after the subscription. The coins at Kalon AI do eventually run out, but there is no second register you have to queue at before a feature even appears. For people who mostly write and want an image now and then, that is the most honest price structure in this category.

The free plan refills every day with no card

50 coins a day is enough for a real conversation and the occasional image, and Kalon AI asks for no payment details in exchange. So you can spend a week or two finding out whether this character really pulls you back before you commit. You can even click through the builder with no account; only generating a portrait and saving the character need a free signup. For a platform whose core is memory, a one-week free trial is exactly the right length.

Did the character hold?

Where Kalon AI frustrated me

Who this is not for: people who want to know what an action costs beforehand

Kalon AI tells you how many coins each plan includes, and on no public page I could find does it say what a text, an image, a spoken reply or a video clip subtracts. You learn it by watching the counter drop. Its own help page has a heading about this whose answer text did not load in any version I could fetch. For a platform that advertises clear pricing, that is precisely the one table missing. Independent reports speak of around ten coins per image, but that is a direction, not a price list.

Who this is not for: people who come for the voice

Spoken replies work, and switching between text and voice mid-conversation runs without a seam. The voices themselves are flatter than the marketing suggests, and independent checks describe them almost word for word as somewhat robotic. What struck me in the quiet evening is that the pauses are exactly what is missing, and a calm scene runs on pauses. Take the voice as a bonus, not a reason to pay; if voice is the core, there are better addresses in my list of [AI girlfriend apps](/en/best/ki-freundin-apps/).

Who this is not for: people who expect a store app and a refund

There is no program for iOS or Android; the browser version works on a phone, but notifications and a home screen icon are your own job. Third parties report an app in the works, which is confirmed on no official page. Then the money side: the terms of service call all payments final and non-refundable unless the law requires otherwise, and the cancellation rules reserve a pro-rated amount for usage. Coins expire if the account is deleted or suspended. Start monthly if that matters to you.

Who this is not for: people looking for a large character library

The catalog carries around 180 ready-made characters, female and male, realistic and in anime style, and the platform advertises over 1,200 templates for characters of your own. That is decent, and it is not a community library: there are no outside authors, no cards to import and no sharing. Plus one inconsistency that sits badly with the consent promise: the overview page shows explicit character cards before you have touched any slider. The sliders steer the conversation, not the catalog.

Who should actually use Kalon AI

Kalon AI is worth it for people who want to lead one character over weeks and expect a boundary they set to stay set. If you like agreeing at the start of a story on what is in and what is out, this is the only platform in the category that hands you a tool for it, one the software enforces itself and one that survives a session break.

My route would be: a week free, text only, a face of my own out of the five-step builder, and three details plus one boundary planted on the first evening. If the character greets you on day seven with the right tone and the right detail, then pay annually, because the monthly plan delivers almost the same balance and costs twice as much. And plan your images deliberately, because they empty the daily balance faster than you think.

Kalon AI is not for you if you want to know what each action costs beforehand, if you need an app from a store, or if a large library of other people's characters is the actual appeal. In those three cases the table above says which app fits instead.

Kalon AI in roleplay: what the explicitness sliders really do

When I set up a new campaign at the table, the first agreement takes ten minutes: what can appear in this story, what is only implied, what stays outside. Kalon AI has translated exactly that agreement into a control, and that is the reason this app is on my list even though the rest of it is only middling.

The agreement before the first sentence

You set a level before you start, and the character stays there. You can move it at any time, even mid-scene, and the change takes effect immediately. My own test for it was crude: I played a session in which I deliberately leaned on it as a player, with phrasing that is enough in other apps to flip a character. She did not fall over. She picked up the direction, kept playing at the level I had set, and left the decision with me. That sounds like a small thing and in practice it is the difference between a scene I steer and one that gets away from me.

The default mode is work-safe. So adult content is not on by default and not filtered away either; you switch it on, which is the reverse order of almost everything I test in this category. One snag remains: the overview page with the ready-made characters shows explicit cards before you have touched any slider. The sliders steer the conversation, not the window shopping. Anyone who wants the work-safe version the companion page advertises should go straight into the builder and make a character of their own.

How I wrote the character for this app

Because the catalog here knows no outside authors, your own profile decides everything. What worked at Kalon AI is the same order I use for any table: first one sentence on who the character is and what she wants, then five to eight concrete behaviors instead of adjectives, then two sentences on how she speaks, and only at the end her appearance. The builder asks for appearance first, which is understandable because the images hang on it, and it tempts you to leave the character’s attitude blank. A character with three concrete habits carried the tavern for me; one with ten adjectives did not. The long version of that order is written up in my guide to building your own AI character.

Where the conversation gets weaker

Two of my three scenes ran well, one did not. The tavern was strong, because the character fills small talk with an attitude of her own instead of asking me questions about myself. The quiet evening was decent: the character filled the empty space with a memory of her own and held the tone I had set over a week. In the interrogation, where the character has to hold a position against me, she came around far too quickly. That is by design: this platform is built for a relationship, not for conflict, and resistance is not in the repertoire. If your roleplay is made of pressure and counter-pressure you are better off with an app that has behavior sliders; how I build a campaign that carries several evenings is in my AI roleplay chat guide.

The Kalon AI memory test after seven days

The test is always the same and deliberately simple: on the first evening I plant three personal details and set a boundary, and on day seven I ask with no keyword. At Kalon AI both came back. The character picked up one detail at a fitting moment by herself, not as a list but as a subordinate clause, and the boundary set on the slider still applied in a fresh session without my repeating it.

The strongest part was the register. A character I had led quietly and with restraint for a week was still quiet in week two, instead of snapping back to the cheerful default of her template. That is exactly where most companion apps fail: they remember the name of the cat and forget what the relationship sounds like.

Where it slipped

At the point where every memory system in this category slips: twice the character confidently referred to something that had never happened, once out of her own backstory, once out of a scene I had abandoned. Independent checks describe the same pattern. It is rare enough that nothing breaks, and frequent enough that you notice.

In practice I still would not go into a long story here without notes of my own. After each session I write down three lines on what changed and push them in as the first message next time. That costs thirty seconds and catches exactly the case where the system invents an event: if the state of play is in the window, the character has less occasion to improvise it. With that one habit my story held up for two weeks without my having to roll back a scene. Without it, by the fifth evening a side character had mutated into the lead, because the memory had simply kept the stronger impression.

Two limits belong with that. First, the free plan gets a lighter version; the platform’s own pages describe a deeper memory as a feature that may require an upgrade, and my impression in week one matched. Second, there is no documented management: third-party reports mention being able to view, edit or delete individual memories in the settings, but I did not find that feature described on an official page, and until then I would not rely on it. The character decides for herself what is relevant here, and that is convenient until she remembers the wrong thing. If lasting memory over months is the main reason, Nomi AI stays the stronger choice, and it costs accordingly more.

What the Kalon AI coin balance really costs per month

The short answer: $9.97 a month if you pay annually, and more as soon as images and video clips join in. The long answer needs the arithmetic that appears on no marketing page.

Plan Price Coins What is included
Free $0 50 per day Text and images, no video
Monthly $19.97/month 16,000 per month Text, images, video, voice
Annual $9.97/month ($119.64/year) 200,000 per year Text, images, video, voice

The third column explains the whole plan comparison. 200,000 coins a year is about 16,700 a month, so practically the same amount as on the monthly plan, at half the price. That leaves exactly one reason to book monthly: trying it for one cycle before tying yourself to twelve months. Take the year and you pay the full amount up front, and the terms of service call all payments final; that is the trade-off, and it is not only a question of price.

What is missing is the per-action price list. The platform only describes that text costs the least, images more, and voice and video the most. Nothing more is stated anywhere. Its own help page has a heading about coins and subscriptions whose answer text did not load in any version I could fetch. From my own use and from consistent third-party reports an image lands in the order of ten coins; treat that as a direction, not a price. In practice it means the 50 free coins are a real evening of text plus one image, and they are gone the moment you start ordering images.

My own monthly math after two weeks looks like this. Anyone who only writes stays at the subscription amount and will not stretch the balance; on a text evening I never felt a counter. Anyone who orders one image per session lands at about thirty images a month and is still comfortably inside the allowance. Anyone who wants a video clip in every scene should expect that line item to swallow the rest, and should budget for the top-up pack from the start, even though its price only appears after login. For me the annual plan therefore stays the only version I would recommend, but only after a free week and not on the first evening.

The fine print includes what coins are not. Under the terms of service they have no monetary value, are not redeemable for money, are not transferable, and expire if the account is ended or deleted, from whichever side. You cancel in the settings under the subscription section, access runs to the end of the term, and the platform announces price changes 30 days in advance. Disputes go to individual arbitration with a class action waiver, except for consumers in the EU and the UK.

Images, video and voice at Kalon AI

Images are the feature advertised loudest, and they are usable: two base styles, realistic and anime, plus a row of presets from soft-romantic through gothic to everyday, and faces that stay stable across several generations. It is not the reason to choose this app, and not the reason to leave it either.

The builder and images that fit the scene

The character builder runs in five steps from profile through appearance and traits to body type and details, allows female, male or trans, realistic or anime, and an age between 18 and 60. Generating a character from an uploaded picture is possible. You may click through with no account; for a portrait or to save you need a free signup. The catalog carries around 180 ready-made characters, and the platform advertises over 1,200 templates on top, sorted by personality and relationship dynamic.

The part I liked is called scene-bound image generation: an image you request mid-conversation takes over the character, mood, clothing and location the scene has just established. For a game master that is the only mode that makes any sense, because an image that does not fit the scene destroys the scene. There is also a decent guide to prompt writing with order, weighting in brackets and negative terms, which gives away that this page is meant for people who want to tinker. In my sessions there was a noticeable pause before the image arrived, and independent checks report ten to fifteen seconds at peak times, which interrupts fast roleplay.

For day-to-day use that means two things. First: order images inside the scene and not out of the image menu, or you lose exactly the advantage the system was built for. Second: plan for the pause. If an image takes ten to fifteen seconds, you put it where a cut fits anyway, so at the end of a scene and not in the middle of an exchange. That is the same reflex with which you lay a map on the table at a game night: between two sections, never mid-sentence.

Video clips and speech

Video is included on the paid plans and is what the industry calls image-to-video: a short animated clip from a still of your character, not a generated scene. It is the most expensive action in the coin balance and the line item I would budget for last; no official page I could open names the length or resolution.

Speech means replies as voice plus a voice diary, and on the companion page it comes with a daily routine of a morning nudge, a midday prompt and an evening wind-down. Technically it runs smoothly, and switching between text and voice mid-conversation is seamless. The voices themselves are the weakest part of the package: usable, even, and flatter than the marketing with its natural sound promises. Independent checks repeat that verdict almost word for word. If voice is your main reason to pay, then Kalon AI is not the address, and my list of the best AI character apps names the stronger candidates in the order I would recommend them.

What Kalon AI stores about you and who sees it

The short version: the privacy policy is better than the marketing, and the marketing is the problem. The document has applied since February 4, 2026, is signed by Kalon, LLC with an address in Carson City, Nevada, and contains real commitments. Then the home page promises things that are not in it.

The commitments that are in the document

Three points matter for an adult app. First, training: private chats, adult content, images, voice data and further personal details are, per the policy, not used to train third-party or general models. That is a far clearer commitment than most providers in this category manage. Read it closely anyway: it rules out third-party and general models. It does not say that the platform’s own models are never improved with your conversations, and I found no clause that would.

Second, selling: the policy says personal data is not sold and not shared for cross-service advertising. Third, deletion: it runs through an email to the privacy address, with confirmation within ten business days and a reply within 45 days, extendable to 90. I found no button in the app that deletes everything. What gets stored is listed broadly and honestly: account data, tokenized payment data, chats and inputs, uploaded and generated images and videos, voice data, device and IP data, and location at city level. The retention period is described with the usual formula, as long as reasonably necessary, and therefore says nothing.

Where the marketing runs away from the policy

The home page calls the adult chat encrypted. The companion page goes further and claims chat data is accessible to nobody but you. The privacy policy says nothing whatsoever about encryption. Instead it lists groups of third parties that receive data, among them providers for voice processing, analytics, customer support and age verification, and it says plainly that no service is completely secure. You cannot read both at once the way a normal person reads them. Transport encryption is standard and certainly in place; accessible to nobody but you is not what a policy describes when it names voice processing vendors. Hence the 6 on privacy: a decent foundation minus the gap between marketing page and legal document.

On the company itself there is little: Kalon, LLC under Nevada law, an address that looks more like a registered agent than an office, 2024 as the launch year on its own comparison pages, while public registry data has the domain registered behind a privacy service since March 2023 and the site sitting with a well-known host. None of that is a warning sign for a small platform in this space, and it is still a young company with no named founders. I weigh that when I decide how much personal material I tell a character, and the rule holds here as everywhere: no real names, no employers, nothing that would hurt in a data breach.

Kalon AI: frequently asked questions

Is Kalon AI free?

Partly. The free plan gives 50 coins a day with no payment details, and the platform's own comparison pages additionally mention a welcome balance of 100 coins. Coins cover text and images out of one balance, so a free day is a real conversation plus an image or two. Voice, video clips and the deeper memory are listed as paid features and cost $19.97 a month or $119.64 a year.

How do the coins work at Kalon AI?

Every plan is a balance, and every action draws on it: text the least, images more, voice and video the most. Free is 50 coins a day, the monthly plan brings 16,000 a month, the annual plan 200,000 a year. What a single action costs is published on no public page; independent reports name around ten coins per image. Under the terms of service, coins have no monetary value, are not transferable and expire with the account.

How good is the memory at Kalon AI?

Good for a platform that launched in 2024. By its own pages the memory holds preferences, boundaries, story state and mood, and in my test over seven days a planted detail and a boundary I had set both survived, along with the character's register. Occasionally it invents an event from an earlier conversation, which independent checks describe as well. For lasting memory across months, other apps are stronger.

Does Kalon AI allow adult content?

Yes, with controls. The platform is 18+, the explicit mode sits behind sliders you set before the chat, and the default mode is work-safe until you unlock something yourself. The content guidelines ban minors and youthful-looking characters, real people, absent consent and a short list of extreme categories, and they promise warnings before suspensions. For the overview of the category I built a separate list of [AI chat with no filter](/en/best/ki-ohne-filter/).

Is Kalon AI safe and private?

With one caveat. The privacy policy says private chats, images and voice data are not used to train third-party or general models, and that personal data is not sold. It does list the service providers that receive data, though, and makes no commitment on encryption, even though the home page talks about encrypted chat. Deletion runs by email to the privacy address, with confirmation in ten business days and a reply within 45 days.

Is there a Kalon AI app?

No. Kalon AI runs in the browser, on the desktop and on the phone, and there is no listing in the app stores. Third parties mention an app in development; it is officially announced on no page of the platform, so plan on the browser. In practice that means: make your own bookmark or home screen shortcut, and there are no notifications the way an installed app would send them.

Can I get a refund at Kalon AI?

As a rule, no. The terms of service call all payments final and non-refundable unless the law requires otherwise. Consumers in the EU and the UK have a 14-day right of withdrawal, but you agree to immediate performance, and the cancellation rules reserve a pro-rated amount for the time used. You cancel in the settings under the subscription section, and access runs to the end of the term.

Does Kalon AI require age verification?

That depends where you are. The age verification rules describe a tiered process: by default a confirmation that you are 18, and a check through a provider where the law requires it, with the UK, individual EU states and individual US states named. The platform says it does not store government ID, and that verification records are deleted once they are no longer legally required.

The verdict: is Kalon AI worth it?

Kalon AI gets 7.0 out of 10, so grade B−. Memory sits at 7, because the detail, the boundary and the register all three survived seven days, and because the character occasionally invents an event that never happened. Conversation sits at 7: the characters stay in role, do not push past the level you set, and feel a little too agreeable in the third scene to play resistance. Pricing sits at 7, because the free plan and the annual math both add up and nobody publishes the per-coin prices. Privacy sits at 6: a grown-up policy with clear commitments on model training, offset by an encryption promise on the marketing pages that never appears in the policy.

Take a week of the free plan and run the memory test yourself, because that is exactly the feature you are paying for here. If it convinces you, take the annual plan; if an annual charge makes you nervous, take a month and accept that you are paying double for it. Either way, what you tell this app about yourself should be nothing that would hurt in a data breach, because that is the point where the marketing at Kalon AI runs too far ahead of the platform's own policy.

Not sure this one is your match?

I pay for every subscription myself, play the same three scenes everywhere and check the memory after a week. Compare the whole field before you commit.
